Menopause is defined as the time when ovarian function ceases, resulting in permanent amenorrhea. Early detection of symptoms can help women reduce their discomfort and fears, improving their quality of life in menopause and beyond. The purpose of this study was to assess women’s knowledge and attitudes toward menopausal symptoms, as well as the severity of menopausal symptoms, in Arar, Saudi Arabia. A cross-sectional study was conducted on women aged 40 to 65 who attended primary health care clinics between May and July of 2019. There were 186 people in the study. 51.8% of all participants were between the ages of 50 and 65. 72.3% were aware that menopause is the inability to conceive, while 21 percent were unaware. 53.4% were aware that menopause can occur at any age. Menopause before the age of 40 is considered early by 52.4% of women. Hot flashes were identified as a menopausal symptom by 68.6% of the participants. The percentages of participants who were aware of other menopausal symptoms included: 67.4% for night sweating, 36.3% for flatulence, 60.4% for muscle and joint pain, 51.2% for skin dryness, 54.3% for headache, 47.9% for heart palpitations, 36.6% for overweight, 54.9% for increased appetite to eat, and 47.9% for pain during sexual intercourse. Saudi women have a good understanding of, and a positive attitude toward, menopause, menopausal symptoms, and their severity. Educational campaigns and conferences may help raise menopause awareness in Saudi Arabia.
