Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the extent of entrepreneurship practises among farmers in Jos, Nigeria. This research looked at small and medium-sized farmer entrepreneurs in Jos North, Jos South, and Jos East. Using Simple Random Sampling, a sample size of 518 was obtained from a population of 834 with a 5% error tolerance and a 95% level of confidence. 505 (or 97.5 percent) of the questionnaire distributed were returned, while 13 (or 2.5%) were not returned. The questionnaire was designed using a Likert scale. To ensure the validity of the instrument, the study conducted a pre-test on the questionnaire. The collected data was presented in frequency tables. The entrepreneurship index was developed and disaggregated into quartiles, with the first, second, third, and fourth quartiles corresponding to very low, low, high, and very high levels of entrepreneurship practises among farmers. The results show that the indices of very low and low entrepreneurship practises fall within the first and second quartiles and have the highest distribution with 165(32.67%) and 140(27.72%), respectively, indicating that the level of entrepreneurship practises among many farmers is very low. However, the results of the response analysis revealed that many farmers have significant potential to increase their entrepreneurship practises. The study recommends, among other things, that the government create the right environment by increasing and maintaining entrepreneurship awareness among farmers.
